    More power for a D1

I have a 98 Disco with 300 TDI engine. I have fitted the upgrade intercooler and adjusted the fuel as sugested by TRS at Lonsdale in SA. That significantly reduced turbo lag and improves performance for my off road antics but i still fall short on towing.

Is it possible to get a bigger turbo and that and an engine rebuild help, how hard is it tp graft a TD5 into a D1 and would that help. Except for the towing its a top car and i dont want to have to part with it if i dont have to.

    Hope you can help

A vnt turbo upgrade will make a difference and then the next step is a td5 upgrade, not hard just $$$ . What sort of weight do you want to tow ?

You might aswell sell it and buy a D2 if you want a td5, they aren't that expensive anymore. If you want more beans out of the tdi a VNT, hi-flow head etc. or the penultimate would be a 2.8 tgv upgrade, or better still a 3.9 Isuzu (4bd1t).

A tdi will always be slow though.

My old Tdi, had the intercooler, fuel pump tweak etc, and it was o.k.
I had LPG fitted and it was a lot better with the camper on, only problem was no LPG when remote, but that is not a major concern
    Worth a thought

Thanks for the info guys i will look into the suggestions. Its hard to find info when you dont know where to start. The VNT turbo is that water cooled? I have not heard of the 2.8 TGV what is that? Still trying to work the site out i'm a bit slow (like a D1)

A 2.8 tgv is a later development of the tdi (itself a development of the 2.25 petrol from the stone age), they are made somewhere in the Americas i think, don't know much about them, but they are used in small trucks AFAIK and have been fitted to quite a few tdi Landies, apparently they are quite an improvement to the 300tdi. Personally if i wanted a D1 with more balls (which i do) i would go for an Isuzu 4bd1t, hopefully coupled to an R380 with maxi-drive upgraded driveline. Just when time and funds permit haha

Forget the R380, go for the MSA conversion from The Grubb.
