    ZF auto to 300tdi

Just wondering if a ZF auto from a petrol V8 will bolt to a 300tdi or is the bell housing and input shaft different?

Different from what i've heard/read, but i'm sure it could be made to fit (tdi bellhousing and input shaft), probably not worth it, see if someone wants to do a swap for one

    it can be done...

You need the tdi to be setup for an auto. as in

If you have a tdi auto and want to put the auto from the v8 in you can do it with some minor detailing and parts swapping.

If you have a tdi Manual and you want to put the auto in thats a lot more work but is still doable IF you have an auto'd tdi and the v8s auto to work with.

What about if you have a tdi auto and want a manual behind it? I assume that just need the auto switch (the thing that stops it starting in gear), the kick-down cable changed, manual pedal box, add clutch hydraulics etc and put the box in, then all the csometic stuff, hmm wonder if someone wants to swap for a manual

auto to manual can be done but thats more work....

ideally before you start out on that kind of project you get a wrecked vehicle thats got the configuration in it that you want (IE a rolled tdi manual) then parts swap away.

Interesting, i would have thought that manual to auto would be more work.

Maybe i should just sell this money-pit when mum's Td5 manual becomes available, probably more trouble than it's worth when i think realistically, but then when i think where my interest lies, what i'd rather have is them both.

    Decisions, decisions

it depends on the vehicle you're putting it into.

the disco was built to swing each way so providing you stay with factory gear theres not much in it at the end of the day, I just hate trying to get the clutch slave / pedal assembly in place and modding the wiring up.

In the context of this thread I actually ment that in the case of swapping a v8 auto into a tdi auto VS putting a manual in place of the auto in the same tdi auto.

depends on your definition of easy, if your definition of easy is convincing toyota drivers that they are not as good as they think they are then yes, its easy.

    but it is doable.
