    hard clutch

    I recentlypurchased a 2003 defender crewcab and it has a hard to use clutch pedal. The mechanic has replaced 3 master cylinders and it keeps blowing seals. Any thoghts thanks Claude

    check slave cylinder for smoothness and to make sure diameter is correct.
    while it is off try clutch fork to see if it is inside that is the problem.

    I'm hoping somebody put a smaller diameter slave in so it requires more pressure for the same force. otherwise it is internal to the clutch.

    Hi Camrover, I second Centy in suggestiing removing the slave cylinder from the bell housing and seeing if it changes anything. If the action improves, then there must be an issue in the clutch mechanism. On a previous LR of mine, the clutch release lever had worn through the pivot point and jammed. If the pedal is still hard with the slave cylinder removed from the bell housing, maybe there is a problem in the slave cylinder itself or , unlikely, a blockage in the pipe. Cheers, 130man.

    I'm assuming the 130s still have a flexible pipe from body to slave cylinder, I'd be looking at replacing that as well - in case it has delaminated internally.
