adding oil to diesel fuel???

Found something interesting the other day when i was told by a bloke that he puts 2stroke oil in his diesel td42 fuel tank

i have heard of people putting a cup of petrol in there fuel tank and claim that it is helping get better performance if that is true i am not sure....
i instantly said to this person that diesel is already a form of lubricant unlike petrol so why the need

he responded that it helps lubricate the injection pump even more....i have seen alot of rotary pumps that have been siezed from numerous causes such as water,dirt old age etc etc but not so many problems with the inline pumps...

i persisted to ask more questions about any problems with power,smoke etc etc
supposedly the car runs smoother,noticably quieter,blows no blue smoke (i thought there may be some smoke issues) the main thing he said was the fuel consumption droped considerably

whats everyones thoughts on this? personally i doubt oil or petrol being added will make much difference but i am up to being convinced otherwise

There are heaps of posts on this - as an overview most people initially thought it was good but there was a thread a few months ago where people provided an update - some still thought it was working but a lot who were initially supporting claimed that over a long period there there was in fact no change.

ontop of all that, there are different types of 2T oil....so say running a full synthetic 2T may give a different resuilt to say a Castor 2T....

Yep, have a search and you will find plenty of posts...

However, I trialled it for 9 months, using different oils, in varying amounts (between 200 & 300 mls per tank) and could not only not feel any difference, but could not measure any difference over the entire time.

These are MY findings only, and different people have reported different results.

I used to add 300ml garden variety 2stroke oil per 100L but now I add 100ml of Moreys diesel smoke killer & fuel conditioner per 100L Fuel, they seem to do pretty much the same thing, (nothing?? ) maybe a placebo effect but it works for me.

There is no way to make an accurate comparison that is worthwhile. You have to have identical conditions. Temperature, humidity, load, vehicle condition, throttle openings ( whatever term applies ) all play a part in making empirical findings. It's worth remembering that: car companies spend months testing to arrive at their projected consumption figures; and that, until recently, oil companies made a monty by loading their fuel into tankers at a high temperature in order to stiff the poor bloke who owned the servo.

Pinch of salt, IMO. If you want to put a gravity fed tank on your roof rack, fill it at the exact same temp, and drive in exactly the same way around a circuit, at exactly the same temperature, with exactly the same throttle movements, with exactly the same fuel, and then do exactly the same, except with a "cup of oil" added, then I'll be interested in your results.

autotrans fliud is a common additive with older diesel engine to clean the tips.some companies must be producing a additive for this.common rail systems with exhaust sencor would be an issue for any product burnt.thats why i like LPG-KERO-small amount of perto to get the diesel burning hotter,,,,doesnt that increase NOX.l.

I often played with exhaust analiser with complaint customers and you often find rolling road differences that dont translate to the hyway.

cant say ive ever been concerned about injector pump wear as a lot of the pumps ive worked on has water internally rust or alloy corosion crystals floating around.most diesel vehicles for some reason have a water seporater that collects enough water and algy to produce blobs that then flow throughinto the pump--this stuff often cant get into the injectors with VE pumps because of fine mesh filters but the tune damage is all ready done..

I had a algy blockage with a 96 RFS canter.ive flushed the tank.
I added wyns fuel conditioner.the instuctions give 300cc/100L.the glass filter has turned black-ive added inline filters as the main filer had blocked.
ive had to reverse flow the prefilters as they are designed to collect crud and restrict flow.by reverse flow the crud drops to the drain plug to drain off.now when i start this the blue smoke is not very healthy and the engine missfiresbut the truck goes much better than normal when it warms up..

the KEY line is---no manufacturer recomends additives[other than subaru]-due to cost benifit.
it cost $900 for 3 injectors for a JD lawn mower with 2000 hrs.
would it cost $900 for an additive-and would the injectors need replacing anyway--we have 3 ride ons and only one failed.-fuel supplied by different dealers.

I filled up this morning needing 80% of the tank,in the EU05 hino FD, from our bulk tank.I refill 2 times a week.
it was cool this morning and the hour drive to the other depo was at least 1/3 more travel time.the trip back this arvo was about normal except on hills.so a big difference with the same fuel..
