diff where tailshaft rubber bolts on.

at the front of the rear diff [1995 disco 300TDI] is a thing that you bolt a rubber too, a rubber the tail shaft does bolt to.

It has 3 holes. Our rubber disintergrated, and whe chopped this up a bit.

Can this be removed without pulling the diff to peices or do we have to unbolt the front housing of that diff???

We have a brand new rubber too put in that Land Rover

If you're talking about the rubber flex joint in the prop shaft its got 6 bolts in it 3 go into the propshaft 3 go into the diff flange.

its pretty much a straight unbolt replace and rebolt job to swap it but its easier if you chassis jack the tail a little to give you some more working room (or do it on a hoist) lift one wheel half an inch off of the ground (to let you turn the shaft for better access) and drop the shaft off of the park brake (generally the front UJ is due at about the same time the donut fails.)

Just changed my Rubber coupling. Took all about 20 mins. Make sure you mark both ends of the tailshaft before removing, otherwise you might get bad vibrations in the driveline.
My uni at the g/box was still fine, but I think the front shaft isn't fitted correctly as I was trying to get to the clutch slave and may have installed it wrong.

Sorry guys I did not explain myself well enough. We swaped the donut shapped Rubber, that was easy enough. I was gthinking we should swap the bit on the diff that this rubber gets bolted to, as that metal bit was chopped out when my rubber disintergrated. Was driving on new road work and ignored the sound for about 1km then climbed under and checked.

The metal bit on the pinoin shaft is chewed up, that was my question.

The centralising spigot on the end of the diff that goes through the donut?

ie, the bit that sticks out in this picture?

    Cheers

I think (distant memory) the rubber donut has a metal sleeve as well - did that get replaced?

    Yes
There are pics about the bit you are referring too here
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-...version-2.html

    and it's part number Tid000010 ( Old number FTC3707)

I've also heard of using a long set screw, the LR hub nut spanner and a piece of flat bar to wind it out. ( Sort of like what was in the 2nd thread)
