Wheel lock nuts, what a clever idea, not.
Ever have one of those where you just wish you had stayed in bed. When even the simplest thing turns into a mission.
Since I bought the Disco three it has a bit of a shake on the steering wheel, nothing too severe. So I take it down to have the wheels balanced and they can't get the wheels off because of the lock nuts are so tight that it starts bursting the socket. They stopped at that point.
What a clever idea put lock nuts on a 4x4 that should come in handy in the bush. But then make the nuts out of putty and the socket out of chocolate.
I managed to get the back wheels loose but the front just burst the socket open despite trying a clamp on the socket.
Knowing I wouldn't sleep until they were off I ended up 'sacrificing' two sockets by hammering them onto the lock nuts. With a power bar, a length of pipe and some jumping they came loose with a crack.
Why a person would tighten locking nuts so tight is beyond me.
So needless to say they will be going in bin and be replaced with the normal nuts and back to have the wheels balanced tomorrow.
