The manual says the steady posts should just touch the backs of the shoes and should neither push them nor should there be a gap. I tried them in and out and no difference.

I've ended up putting the old ones (cleaned up) back on, so at least I can use the vehicle. I filed away a considerable amount of the padding but still no go, may need a more aggressive approach but that can wait for the moment. Changed the rear cylinders today and hoping the new pads fit that . Had one side with a warped brake drum and the other side with oil and grease that had gotten past the seal and filled the drum. Spare drum and spare hub fitted today but may have a blockage of the breather on the rear diff so have to check that out tomorrow.
