    Widening Track

After a recent 2000km trip with my D1 V8 full loaded (all inside vehicle), i have started to think about improving the vehicle stability and handling without sacrificing off road ability. I'm about to put on a full length roof rack and will be carrying the tent and mats on the roof, so raising the center of gravity.
I have a 2" lift and no rear sway bar (due to a long range tank).
I run 245/75 R16 Bighorns on standard alloys.
So the question is would using some steel rims with -25 offset 16x8 with 265/75R16 improve the on road and off road stability with a load?

I have been out with guys that have -25 offset rims and they tell me it make a hugh difference with stability. You will need to cut the guards and doors then fit flares to have them under cover. The 265x75x16 tyres will take a lot of edge off acceleration and fuel economy, especially fully loaded. Diff ratio change would help.
    Cheers, David.

That's what I was going to do as High range was rubbish with 33" but low range was fine.

bump steer and axle steer will get worse. Load on king pins and wheel bearings will be worse. Thats all I can think of....oh and I could be wrong

Making it taller with squishier tyres? Can't see that helping stability at all.

Compared to stock, you will still have gained more height than width, which puts those mods into a net loss. To get stability back to stock, take the 2" lift out and find a way to do without the roof-rack. Then look at going wider without going taller.

If my memory stands correct ( and I rarely trust it) for inch in height you need to go out 1/2 an inch in track to maintain the same CoG ratio

Is that 1/2" increase in track or 1/2" per side?
    Cheers

Increase in Track, so for a 2" lift you need to go 1" wider in track which is 1/2" per side usually taken up by wider tyres

Again from memory a DI has +33mm rims which means that if you use the -28mm rims that gives an increase of 61mm per side using standard tyres. do that math that means using them you can theoretically go up 242mm which is getting into the realms of perhaps to much

In my personal opinion I think the 0mm offset rims are probably more than enough for most of us - if my memory and math is correct.

As always happy to be corrected

What is the most offset you can go before you need to cut and put on flares?
I gather i could go more offset it i run a narrower tyre like a 235/85???
