    What i'd do to clean it is pull the sump and pour 10-20L of kero/deisel through the oil filler. Then do the same with some cheap oil (even cheap 20-50w) then do a proper fill with diesel oil, run until hot then drop that oil and change for whatever you reckon is good.

    FWIW Im just using valvoline super diesel oil and it seems to be pulling the soot out well, plus its $58 for 10L so i can change it abit more often.

    Your spot on this is one of the problems with todays oils. When trying to choose oils i always refer to the Lude Guide from the oil manufacture. They wont recommend it if thay cant back it up.

    I manly stick with Valvoline & Fusch oils these days because the data sheets supplied with the oil prove vehicle manufactures have approve the certain oil to be used.

    Also i am using Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro C3 5W/30 oil in my Disco Td5. I have always run this in all VW/Audi's where recommend. Its also Fuchs Recommend oil for the Disco Td5.

    Just for interest, is the flushing agent you are using synthetic, and the oil mineral based?

    I think you will find that flushing agents will have a warning about dislodging a build up.

    Try changing your flushing agent. It appears this all started after first use of Nulon flushing agent!
