    Salt water as coolant

So i was out today and ended up with a broken radiator hose

No big deal as i always carry a spare.

only problem is I only had about 2 litres of fresh water and i had to fill the rest up with salt water to get home

So know that im home should i just give it a flush with fresh water then fill it back up or is there more i should do?

I drove about 50KM to get home.

Sounds like it needs a really good flush!

Several good flushes with fresh water over several weeks then the correct coolant after that.
    SHOULD be all good.
Remember outboard motors are salt water cooled

Have seen deisel engine's on the trawlers run on salt water for several weeks when needed, so think a good flush and new coolant should be all that is needed.

i think you can buy special flush stuff from boat shops for out boards, might be worth a look.
ps have you ever seen inside a outboard?

Outboards have the advantage of anti-corrosion anodes, but they have salt water through them all the time. I agree with everyone you should be OK with a good flush or 2.
