Using 1/4" olives on 6mm nylon air line - will they seal?

I'm about to replace the air springs on our LP/P38a Range Rover but I'm looking to convert the push in air lines to nuts & olives.

I thought 6mm fittings would be easy to get but my local Pirtek doesn't have them & could only supply 1/4" fittings which are about 6.4mm.

Will this difference be taken up enough when the oilve is compressed or will I be better off getting the correct 6mm olives?

A quick Google search seems to indicate that they're not easy to find in Australia. I can get them from UK via eBay though:

I'm no expert but I would go for the correct 6mm ones. Just my opinion

You can get away with it if you use the internal ferules that fit inside the hose, this prevents the hose from collapsing and allows a little more pressure to be applied by the nut onto the olive, but be careful, as it is easy to split the nut if over tightened...... as our apprentices at work keep finding out

I would go to a seller of european brand pneumatics, e.g. Festo.

Also if you have a gas conversion place nearby, ask if he has any as some european LPG equipment comes with 6mm olives for their copper tube connection, they aren't used in Australia as we have to use 1/4 flared tube fittings.

Most pneumatics companies (including Festo) don't make olive type fittings. The company I work for have them in their range but we don't carry much as there is virtually no demand for them for general pneumatics use. They're still used in the truck industry and also on centralised greasing systems.
I know a local company that carry them but not sure about metric sizes.

Scouse, what size is the thread you are screwing the fitting into ?
I guess the other question is why do you want to change from push fit connectors ?

Are olive fittings a perfect, 101% seal compared to the push-fit 99.99999999999% integrity ???

    - Certainly would appeal to the Puritan work-ethic.... much effort & expense yielding rightous satisfaction in a job well-done, as opposed to the sinful easiness of a push-fit...

Is the (Imperial) 1/4 flared fitting actually specified ? Or just a flared fitting...

Interesting if it is. - size-wise, I mean. I've always understood screw-up fittings to be the best possible seal, and most reliable regarding catastrophic failure.

Swagelock fittings when used with nylon must use an insert also. Other wise you are asking for trouble if you operate them at their potential pressure.

There's no thread in the airbag at the moment I'll be cutting one once I have a suitable fitting to use. At this stage, I have one of these from Pirtek that I want to fit to the airbag:

The original fitting is fine normally but it is a known leak spot on the LP/P38a Range Rover so while I have the new airbags sitting around, I thought I'd look into converting to nuts/olives rather than relying on the original O rings to seal the lines (after a suggestion by a fellow member on here).
