Trailer hitch mounting bolt torque settings

I've just replaced the hitch in the Track trailer. I'm also about to replace the hitch on the tandem.
Is there a torque I should be toutqueing these bolts up to?

Thought I'd give this a bump.

I remember seeing somewhere a chart of thread sizes and recommended torque settings.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Um... it "tight" a torque setting? Cos honestly, unless it's something specific like the head bolts on the engine that needs to distribute load evenly, I'd be none too worried. But that's just me.

    Mick.
You need to find out the diameter, grade and thread form of the bolt. Then you can look up the recomended torque setting on the net.

I've always been taught "Tighten them until they strip then back off half a turn. That's where they should be."

Torquing bolts correctly is not something to be taken lightly. Remind me to watch out for you when you tow. And here was me thinking you wanted a serious response. I would call these bolts a critical joint. The thread form is usually fine with nylon nuts. Tight is just not good enough. It may be too tight, stressing the bolt or too loose, causing movement in the joint either way resulting in a failure.

    Robbo.
Back in August, I wanted a serious response. Still do.
You've been around here a while. You know how many wannabe comedians infest this site.
Not much chance you'll see me in NSW with a trailer. They do you for "unregistered trailer" when you tow a Victorian trailer with "registration exempt" plates.

Now, back to the serious discussion, or entertaining banter.
    What's your pleasure?

Ok. Sorry, did not pay attention to when you posted your thread. Reinterating my serious response, torque them to their correct values. Friends??
