    TD5 injector

    hi all,
I have the head off my 2000 td5 D2 - needs a new head because there is a hole between the water jacket & the inlet valve on No.1.

Anyway I want to find out if I can clean the crud off the tip of the injector as seen in the photo.

I don't understand how the injector works & don't want to stuff it up. Are there a hole(s) in the tip under the crud or does the whole thing move in & out?
    any help appreciated

    thanks
    Steve

steve, just a soak in clean kero and wipe off softened carbon etc with rag, make sure you replace copper washers and o rings with new genuine ones, and enure seating surface on injector under the washer is immaculate, and the surface inside the head where it seats.

Thanks Justin - I was hoping that would do the trick. Have been reading Psimpson's info in the good oil but didn't see anything on the injectors.

PS - my wife was taking to your mum ( I think) at the pool in Canberra last week. My wife was commenting on our 58 swb & so they started taking landrovers. Small world

anyway thanks - i have to put the head back together this week end so you might see some more threads from me.

    regards
    steve

JC is it correct that 300tdi copper washers can be used, may even give a better seal due to the raised area.

yes the world gets very small! she had to put up with all sorts of dead rangies etc and engine parts on kitchen tables, in ovens, even the freezer at times so she'd have plenty to talk about

don't hesitate to pm if you want help, i usually check in sometimes during the day etc.

they aren't a good fit on the end of the injector from memory, i did try it once but decided to revert back to the right ones.
