Easiest is probably to fit a 4.6. The way it should have been.
Otherwise you're playing with cams, ecus (which is hard on V8's) etc.
does anybody know any modifications i can do to give more pulling power when towing, i have a 2001 4.0 automatic disco2

out of interest...has anyone put a turbo on one?
A V8? Need some work, the head gaskets/bolts are suspect at the best of times. Then there's location, best fitted on passenger side or a bigger single at the Y underneath with the problems that would incurr. Or redesign all the exhaust to bring both sides forward and put it at the front.
4.6 is a bolt in option and a lot cheaper than that hassle. Plus turbos for those who can't think about how too make power.
A good exhaust, a chip (not a Uni-Chip), better injectors and all together then a good dyno tune, a quality trans oil cooler and an auto tune-up kit, if your keen you could always go for a new cam to suit your needs, Regards Frank.
A 4.6 crate motor from Turner Engineering comes with a Kent H180 high torque cam, stage 1 gas flowed heads, new rocker gear - great package especially since it has the all important top hat liners already installed. About 8k landed including duties in around 14 days with DHL.
On my 3.9 I did extractors, snorkel, ignition then hit upon the secret - I got a 4.6 fitted.
As it was a good second hand engine I didn't have it modified ie top hat liners but it did get a more torque orientated cam fitted. In retrospect I should have done the liners as now I was to slap a puffer on it but not game with a standard engine (about 50k) old.
If I was to go down that path it would be an Eaton M122 as they are relatively cheap, the correct volumetric capacity, and put it at about 4PSI.
Thing is either you need deep pockets or access to a workshop, machine shop and aluminium welders as it is a custom build and as such not for the faint hearted but if you could get it together it would be pretty awesome.
I don't know about piggy back ECU's but they would have to help.
I asked about the turbo because I remember them being put on the V8 Rovers in England.
However I did not have much to do with these. It was a common and quick upgrade for power for several manufactured cars.
chilly
Do you know which ones? Would be interested to check them out, out of curiosity - actually the capa supercharger that looks like a modified turbo would probably be the easiest of the lot as it bolts on like an alternator or AC compressor and runs off of the serpentine belt but they are too expensive for me
G/day Allan
I have done a Davis Performance Landrover ecu upgrade combined with a free flowing muffler, I have noticed more torque towing a 1.7 T caravan .
I'm not pushing the go pedal as far down on the hills & the transmission changes are better...ie ..When the gearbox needs the change the engine isn't reving as hard.....
I also run 98 octane fuel...
Cheers smally
