    air conditioning filter?

Hi all, recently I went across the simpson desert and for most of the trip I had my A/C on.
Now my A/C smells like desert dust and camp fire smoke every time I turn it on. at first I quite liked it ...but now im a little over it ...

does anyone know what could be holding that smell? a replaceable/washable filter maybe?

thankyou in advance for any advice regarding this.

    What car ?

Deefers aren't that sophisticated to have a filter

If you can get some coil cleaner off a fridgey, spray it on the evaporator and just use the a/c.

The condensate runs it and whatever crap is on the coil off and down the drain.
    No need to rinse.

If it's a D2,then yes there is a filter, can't remember exactly, but i think you have to lift the bonnet then it is on the air inlet vents?Possibly above the firewall. It is a sort of strip of foam.Comes off easily & is washable.D3/4 also have them, but am yet to discover where.

    oops, yep, its a 98 D1.

I actually drove home during heavy rain today and only now (that I'm home)thought it would have been a good idea to run the A/C, maybe the airborne precipitation might have helped.
as I said, the smell is somewhat pleasant but I'm considering the long term psychological effects to constant exposure to excess nostalgia brought on by the smell ofcamp fires and desert dust
thanks, I will lift the hood tomorrow and check for a filter, is this under the hood between the top of the firewall and the windscreen? (that place where you always loose tools)

    cheers,
    Jarrod.
