    Now low range!

    Hi,
Just discovered that I've lost low range in my D1 200TDi. Leaver just swings forward sand backwards clearly not engaging with anything. Still engages diff lock though. Hoping for a quick fix that I can pull of between now and lunch, without getting dirty. Suspect it may bit a bit more involved though.
Any suggestions gratefully accepted. I have searched the archives and found a similar problem with high range but a very different gearbox.

    Cheer,
    Ian.

check the linkages from the lever to the actuator on the gearbox, i would say a pin has come out. from memory its a bit a squeeze to get your hand in there from below. taking the middle seat out or centre console whatever you have and the plate should make it easier.

Thanks Tangus89. I followed the linkage back to the transfer case and everything seems connected hard to tell though, if the lever on the top is actually turning rod into the case. I can't feel how it is attached and the Haynes manual I have doesn't do gearboxes!

The same thing happened to mine. I pulled the top off the Transfer case where the linkage goes in and the selector shaft rod just moves back and forth with no resistance. I think the set screw that attaches it to the selector fork has come loose or stripped. The transfer case is now sitting in the corner of the shed until a rainy day when I might pull it down to see what went wrong.

Look like it will have to be removed to be repaired.
    Cheers, David.
