    Detroit Truetrac Diff Lock

    Defender Td5 - 110 year 2005

Thinking of installing a Detroit Truetrac on the Rear Diff, since I have to open it to replace the bearings.

Since the vehicle has Traction Control, will the Diff Lock really make a difference ? Or is it going to be a waste of money ?

I inquired LDS (Locked Drive Systems) in Australia about a Truetrac for my Defender and the reply was, they only supply it for the Salsbury Diffs.
This is kind of strange because I can get the Truetrac from the UK or US for my Diff.

It makes me wonder if it really makes sense or any difference to put a Diff Lock on the Defender when it has TC.

    Appreciate the input

    Jorge

A truetrac isn't a difflock, it is a limited slip diff. It will work very well with the traction control.

    X2

and might I suggest Ashcrofts ATB instead.

Cheaper than a Tru-Track and should be better/more durable as it uses six cross gears like Quaife's ATB instead of the Tru-Track's three.

Torsen style LSD / AKA Truetrac , or Ashcroft ATB , and traction control is a match made in heaven . Your Defender will love you for it, & much nicer on all the rest of the driveline components to boot.

Have Truetrac fitted both ends of MY05 110, no complaints whatsoever.

Is the Ashcroft ATB available for the Salisbury? Their web site isn't clear on the matter.

No I dont think so but my 05 110 has a Salisbury with Traction Control and the answer is the Detroit (eaton) TrueTrac as it basically is the Dana60 unit with 24spline side gears.

considerable reduction in backlash noticed too !!!

Interesting, but what if we take it up a notch and go with a full Detroit, will it be even better or will I have to start worrying about things?

If I did not have Traction Control I would have went Detroit SL,

Detroit does not work with TC, it makes it redundant.
BUT you would also need heavy duty axles, you will soon break the standard liquorice, Detroit is so much easier to fit into a Salisbury than a TrueTrac

For vehicles without TC, Detroit rear and Truetrac front is a good combo.

The truetrac with TC is a good combo and word is it seems to negate the need to upgrade the axles (at least in the D2 circles). I have the Ashcroft in the rear of my D2 with TC and it's made it totally different to the point where I was considering doing the front as well but now wonder if it's really necessary. I have a winch and if I'm at the point where the front LSD would make a difference, I'm probably getting in deeper where I'd need the winch eventually anyway.
