We've spent a lot of time on the dyno and road testing with different vehicles and facing 4" snorkel openings in all different directions.
We did have a problem with one vehicle (non land rover) when we faced it straight back, at highway speed we had much higher egt's.
We twisted the head slightly inward and the problem went away.
The direction of the head doesn't make a massive difference, the size of the intake, the amount of bends and the size of the bends is where you will make your gains. Straighter the better and long flowing bends.
If you're running a pod or high flow filter with the snorkel facing backwards, be prepared to listen to a lot of induction growl.
I have a 4" stainless snorkel on our defender, it works a treat.

but as another member on here likes to say a pod filter is more just a pod no filter...interesting finds on egts I must say...
where did you source the informer from ? Direct from Donaldson ?
