engine dies
i have a 85 classic range rover with a 3.9 transplant with 3 speed auto.
the problem , coming home yesterday and the motor just stopped and all the electricts were dead so pulled over to the side of the road thinking what had just happen so i switched the key off then back on again and it fired up and the only thing that didnt work was the flashers got home all the fuses are good cant see and lose or broken wires , so what caused the motor to cut out and all the electricts and why did it fire up again and why dont the wipers work now
if anyone has the answere i would be greatful , thanks

Not sure about an 85 Rangie but that used to happen occasionaly with my 78 model. Took ages to work out the problem as as soon as there was no electrical load the problem went away. It turned out the be the fuse box itself under the dash on the lhs. The fuse box was made with brass contacts that were somehow doubled over (cant remember the exact details as it was about 25 years ago) however when the brass got hot the metal separated just enough to lose contact. As soon as the vehicle was switched off (stalled) and the load was gone for a bit it would start again. A new Narva fuse box was installed and the problem never came back.

There are two circuits involved, ignition and accessories. Probably a faulty ignition switch. Have a look at the back of the ignition switch and wriggle the wires.

took the old girl up to the sparke , with the wipers the hazed switch was the problem so he just by past that so now they are working okay, with the ignition the elect thing behind the key needs a new one so looks like a trip to rovercraft
