You're doing the right thing, looking on the web for the spyder.
But if the solenoid moves when you turn the key but the starter does not work I'd be looking at the starter.
Hi
i am unable to locate the spyder in my Discovery i have pulled the front console apart and even check under the glove box but i cant find it anywhere
i think is causing the issues i am having that it wont start, i have check the starter motor and it works fine if i apply power to it directly, i have check the solenoid and it moves and is working but when i turn the key to start it nothing happens the solenoid moves but nothing happens, i am hoping that i dont need a new one, but any help on being able to locate the spyder would be great as i dont have a key fob for the car as it was smashed (ie dropped then run over by accident )
any help would be great
thanks
Jeremy

If your remote was single button which it should be for 1994, then the spider doesn't exist, they have a conpletely different alarm system. It is the same as late classic RRC and softdash RRC. The alarm module should be behind the glovebox, it should be an AMR2106. google search images for it , it should be behind glovebox, to the left, and is coloured black with an aerial plugging into it. There are new remotes available for it from http://www.remotekey.co.uk/, and programming instructions are;
HANDSET INITIALISATION
NOTE: New handsets are supplied in pairs.
If a new handset is required, it will require
initialisation to the ECU using the
following procedure:
1. Starting conditions: ignition off, doors unlocked,
bonnet switch depressed.
2. Carry out instructions 3 to 9. within 8 seconds.
3. Switch ignition ON.
4. Switch ignition OFF.
5. Lock doors.
6. Unlock doors.
7. Release bonnet switch.
8. Switch ignition ON.
9. Switch ignition OFF.
If alarm is correctly accessed, horn will sound and
LED will light. It is now possible to programme two
handsets of correct frequency to vehicle alarm ECU.
This must be carried out within two minutes.
10. Press and hold down button on first handset until
dash LED flashes.
11. Repeat instruction 10 for second handset.
12. The LED will extinguish if both handsets have
been initialised correctly.

As Justin said, 1994 there is no spider (thanks for that).
Johannes
There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
I am not sure if it is the starter as if i apply power to the others side of the solenoid the starter comes to life and turns like crazy, that is why i thought it might be the spider or the solenoid, but if there is no spider then it makes it easier lol just have to put the console back together now lol, so it sounds like it is the solenoid then annoying thing it is
jeremy, it is still possibly immobilised, i left that bit out of my post! sorry. the alarm can and does cause a non start if it is faulty, i'm not sure what bypass from memory you have to earth a wire in the wiring plug to the alarm ecu, i'll check and report back.
jc
Thanks Justin i hope it something like that i really dont want to have to buy a new starter motor the things arn't cheap
ah, i must learn to read more carefully. so if you short the terminal for the solenoid directly to the main battery supply at the starter, does the starter rotate the engine? if not then yes a starter or solenoid is required. V8 or tdi?
jc
Not sure justin i have to try it in the car yet will be putting it back in soon
oh and its the V8
