OK, home at last. Will get under the Disco tomorrow to check a few of the things you guys have mentioned. I can't take my box out yet as I need the car mobile, so I need to ask a couple more questions.

The P38 has it's TC on the opposite side to my D2, and the TC is different. Will my D2 TC mount up to the ZF, or do I need to change the , well, I guess it's the extension housing? Is the output shaft the same, ie splines etc? If mine is a 22, and the other is a 24, will the bigger TQ fit into the TD5 bell housing?

That sounds like a question best asked of Ashcroft I think. Haven't had anything to do with a P38 disassembly.

Yes, I agree. I have emailed Dave, and will post any reply here. I reckon others may be interested.

Here's Dave's reply. Bear in mind I was asking specifically about the box that is available.

It's not possible to convert the 061 to fit the td5 box, too many differences in the front, rear and valve body, even if you found a 4.0 p38 4hp22 this would be closer but it would still need a full strip to change the output shaft

    Regards

    Dave Ashcroft

This is the most telling part for me. I am well aware of my limitations, and a "full strip" is beyond them.

Why? Just remove clothes, replace shaft. Clothes gone = better access to your shaft.
