    Aye, no doubt it's a rebore job. But rebuilding the engine just for one run really isn't feasible I reckon...

    true, but it would be handy to for resale of the engine. Wonder what a buggered 300tdi is worth? Might not be worth all the effort depending on cost of a freshen up.

    I thought about doing a rebuild from the point of view of selling the engine, but honestly, I wouldn't do it in Alice if I could help it. Suttons don't do rebuilds, and considering what it took to order in a single head gasket, I'd be here for the next six months waiting for bearings and pistons to get here...

    Working on it, believe me. Forgot it was Sunday though, so not having much luck with trucking companies/truck rentals etc... :/ Part of the problem though is that I'm still in the same position as I was a month ago - vehicle is going to be too high, or too loaded, or has personal items. Fingers crossed....

    Have you had any luck with a one way car transporter rental? Ive had a quick luck but got no-where.

    Its about $250 for a hire in melb for a week (assuming you lighten the 110 abit and put the stuff in the towing vehicle).

    First thing we checked, but no joy. Nearest one is in Broken Hill - we'd be halfway to Melbourne at that stage.

    Yeah, that's what we're looking at right now as it happens. Just working out the cost and logistics now of getting down to Melbourne, picking up car and transporter, driving back up to Alice, loading up the Defender, driving back down to Melbourne....
