    V8 Cam Chains

I have been searching for a dual chain cam chain kit for a no dissy fitted 4.0/4.6 V8 and not having much luck - only found listings for single chains and dual chains for dizzy fitted V8s.

So can dual chains/cogs be fitted to the very last of the the Rover V8s?

    Thanks

Unfortunately the answer is No... I explored this when rebuilding the top end of my 4.6 recently. There are a couple of reasons: the oil pump and the crank positioning sensor requirements.

In the post 1994 engines, the LR engineers changed the design of the oil pump so that it is positioned concentric with the end of the crankshaft. This has reduced space available for a second sprocket. Also the chain wheel has to accommodate the cam position sensor which protrudes through the front cover in close proximity to it. You can see the various slots machined into the inner part of the chainwhell to generate the positioning signal, in the pic in Post #18 here: Head Gasket Time...

In selecting the "one-size-fits-all" Morse type chain, there are two options: a so-called "stiff" chain and a "floppy" chain. "stiff" is better It's listed as such as ERC7929 in the Karcraft price list for a shade over $22 inc GST
