    COUNTY CLUTCH DOESN'T WORK

A couple of days ago I moved the County from the garage to the roadway to make room. I noticed the clutch now engaged virtually straight off the floor. Too busy to look at it and today I went to move it back down the driveway. The clutch doesn't work at all. The pedal goes up and down with virtually no resistance. I can't see any hydraulic leaks and the master cylinder is full.

Before I delve into it (when I get time. Pretty busy this time of year) has anybody got any ideas as to what might be wrong?

It is almost certainly hydraulics - Try just bleeding it, it often will get you going.

It is also possible that the nuts attaching the pedal to the pushrod have come loose - the Isuzu vibration can do that sort of thing - removing the cover should confirm whether that is the problem. Also could be the master cylinder piston is both leaking on the primary seal, and is stuck in the cylinder.

But the most likely problem is that the slave cylinder seal (or possibly the master cylinder secondary seal) is operating as a one way valve, letting air in.

A mechanical failure of the release fork is possible, but I have never heard of it on this vehicle (common on later ones).

Replace both master and slave, they are cheap, very painful to bleed though, I get a helper in

Remove the bleed nipple fully, get said helper to sharply stap at the clutch pedal as quick as they can to the floor until you get plenty of fluid, finish of with vacuum bleeder

Only time I have ever had a problem bleeding mine was when it was pointing downhill - then I reverse bled it using a carefully cleaned oil syringe.

HI Brian, quite some years ago I had a sudden clutch failure in my Isuzu powered County with the LT95 gearbox. It turned out to be the clutch throwout lever pivot point had worn and wasn't allowing proper travel . In fact, I recall the pedal jammed solid. It was fixed by the local engineering people who machined out the pivot point in the housing and machined up a new pivot point and pressed it in. Excellent repair at a very reasonable price. Hope this casts another light on the problem. If the hydraulics solutions don't work, this may be a possibility. I used a hole saw to cut an inspection hole in the bell housing to identify the problem and sealed it up afterwards. Crude but effective. Cheers, 130man.
