    Back Door, Puma 90.

    G'day guys,

I have a Puma 90 (MY 12), only for the past few weeks and love it.....except for the rear door rattle......yes I know, its a landy, but I know it can be fixed.....somehow.

The rattle is coming from the lock itself, the rotating cam of the door lock portion which rotates around the striker pin on the frame portion of the lock, these 2 parts hitting each other as the door moves over bumps. I can replicate the noise when inside grabbing the rear door handle and moving in and out.

I have elongated the striker so as to make the door compress the door seal further but it still rattles.

The passenger side bottom of the door touches the galvanised door strip as there is about 25mm of paint worn off in that area of the door, so I am probably getting some noise from that part as well. The door is definitely lower on this side, you can see the door gap along the bottom edge when the door is closed.

I removed the rear wheel/tyre from the door and this did substantially reduce the amount of noise except on crap roads down here on the sapphire coast, I am only talking bitumen here, haven't had Ivy off road as yet.

I did loosen and remove all of the bolts on the body side of the hinges to try and adjust the door, but I found the bolt holes are straight through and not elongated at all to offer any type adjustment.

Does any body on here know how land rover make the adjustment I am after.
Do they just elongate these holes, or is there something I am missing?

I will be adding a rear wheel carrier in the future, either a mantec or rijidij, not sure which yet.

    Thanks

    Mick

Mine doesn't rattle if I really slam the door shut. Is that all it could be?

I wish it was that easy!!!!

It doesn't seem to matter whether I slam it or push it closed the lock does 'click' positively closed, just still rattles and I would like to adjust the unevenness of the bottom gap.

My 90 does the same thing, It was an easy fix. . . I turned the stereo up

but in all seriousness it does get annoying some times, try adding some rubber strip to 'tighten' the door when its closed?

I fitted a small sub woofer and haven't heard a rattle since. It mounts nicely on the back of the cubby box. Seriously though, a spare wheel carrier fro Rijidij certainly helped.

Yeah I tried the stereo option

I did try a small strip of weather seal stripping, but only near the lock, I will try going the entire length top to bottom with some closed cell strip I've got for the boat hatches.

I am beginning to think most of my loud banging is coming from where the door bottom is bouncing on the gal strip as the door is lower on the lock side. I just need to find out the 'correct' way of adjusting the door whether it is elongating the hinge body mount holes or another way.

    Does anybody know????????

Carl, are you happy with the rijidij carrier, does it have any additional rattles? Does it mount the tyre edge in the same position in relation to the back door handle/does it block it at all?

What sub did you use, is it with the standards head unit or aftermarket?

    Thanks guys

    Mick
