The boost modulator with its 3 hoses and an electrical connector is located just above the pipe going from the turbo to the I/C. It often fails in the position of never passing turbo pressure to the wastegate actuator which results in too much boost. Whilst 2700 is a little higher than normal, the surging is a sign of fuel being cut. Connect a hose from the turbo to I/C pipe pressure outlet directly to the wastegate actuator to revert to base boost of 1 bar as a temporary fix. The modulators are not expensive.

Edit: Whilst disconnecting the MAF will prevent the ecm from operating the boost modulator to use more than base boost, it wont prevent overboosting caused by a failed boost modulator.

Thanks mate. I'll be over to see you when I get back.

Will have a look at the hose as mentioned by Graeme and if that's a no go, I'll disconnect the MAF until I get back.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

Well, Santa came a little early and I GOT A NEW MAF!
MR Automotive were open this morning and well... I'm $250 lighter in the wallet but WOW, what a difference a MAF makes
Now I realise that mine has been on the blink for ages. The difference is just amazing.

Thanks once again for all the advice and offers of help.

I paid $250 incl GST from MR Automotive in Redcliffe Qld. Not bad when you look at the US price

Maybe some of our Aussie suppliers are starting to feel the bite with online sales..... bloody good thing!
