    Deferent 130 front flange removal on transfer case

    Yo, I need to remove the front flange on may transfer case ( the one that attaches to my front prop shaft), as I need to replace all four bolts that attach to my prop shaft. Is the 30mm nut undone in anti clockwise direction or clockwise? Gave it a bit of a crack today and didn't budge, quite awkward when laying underneath bus as there is a bit of movement in the flange.     Resumably your bolts are on the flange side and are too long to extract with the flange on ?

    When I did mine (1995 300 Tdi 130 single cab) the bolts were the other way round with the nuts behind the flange. Was an absolute bastard of a job as spanners just fit with very little room to move but at least they could be taken out.

    Why not leave the flange alone and use a 1mm disc in an angle grinder to cut the old bolts short so they can pop out and then fit your new bolts from the other side ?

    Be careful with the prop shaft as the unis are not 'in phase', try not to separate the sliding joint without marking both sliding joint halves so they can go back the right way.

    I use an impact gun to remove the centre nut, may as well change the flange gasket at the same time if you're going down this track.

    If you haven't got an air impact gun the 12 volt ones are a very good piece of kit at about $100 and are handy in the bush as well.

    Hi Jamie,
    The Flange nut is a standard right hand thread - it should be undone anti-clockwise when viewed from the front of the car looking back.

    I have a piece of 6mm flat bar with 2 holes drilled in it that I bolt to the flange. the bar rests againts the ground (or chassis) to stop the flange from turning.
    I use the same bar undoing the pinion nuts on diffs and as part of a crank lock tool for my 300tdi.

    ( I probably shouldn't add that I have resorted to using a bottle jack under the end of a braker bar to move real tight ones.)
