    300tdi disco timing belt help

G'day guys im having troubles doing the timing belt on my 300tdi disco.
i can get in on there no worries i got them tools that you put in the flywheel housing and in the injector pump to line it up and everythings all linned up but no starty
now i will mention that i did have a belt on there befor it ran ust puffed a lil diesel smoke nothing to serious then the belt got caught up and went upside down on the crank shaft make a lil mess but i cleaned it up and i just put the new one on but not its not wanting to fire up you can hear it wanting to and you can smell burnt diesel but still no go

if anyone could help me that would be awsome but if someone who has done them befor and has all the tools to get the timing spot on and could come over and help me do it i wouldnt be able to thank them enough

    cheers,
    shannon

If the belt slipped like that you almost certainly have bent push rods, you'll need to take the rocker cover off, rocker shaft and check the rods.
I've been there after a snapped belt and had about 4 bent rods, just buy some more and throw em in.
Actually, question from myself thinking about it, as a bush fix, how would you go about straightening the rods in the middle of nowwhere, assuming you had a new belt but didn't have spare rods?

cheers mate yeh i only just read you post i did take the rocker cover off and had a look and yeh i think about 4 push rods are stuffed from what i can see with only taking to cover off, number 3 rockers are both been snapped on the adjuster side and thats it so far im gonna take the head off and have a good look into it and make sure that thats the only thing gone wrong with it will upload some pics tomorrow.

well if you were out bush and that happened you could run her on 3 cylinders ahaha and fix it when you get into town just limp it there

I didn't mention the possible broken rockers as I didn't want to jinx you, it seems the 300s have a habit of doing that, while the 200s only ever seem to bend the rods.
Well, that will be your problem then!

Just curious, but surely you rotated the engine over by hand after installing the timing belt, to make sure that nothing (valves and pistons) are going to touch and making sure the timing marks are aligned.
Now I have read your post over a few times I'm not sure if you are saying you replaced your timing belt and when you went to start it it wouldn't start or the belt came off while you were driving.
In any case when replacing timing/cam/IP gear you should always rotate carefully by hand to make sure nothing binds up, Regards Frank.

haha yeh mate i see what your saying ok i'll start from the top i bought the car had snapped crankshaft
i repaced the crank and all bottom end bearings
had timing problems where was out to much and puffing smoke
so i kept taking the belt off and playing around with it

so ok at the point of the belt failure
i put it on went on ok could of been better which i should of known something wasnt right from then on
i ran it went allright so i had the timing cover off to see it running i only ran it for 5 seconds gave it a little rev
so i put the timing cover on and put water in it and got it to a point all i had to do was start it and i could drive it for the first time
after putting the cover on i was gonna run it for a couple of mins just to see how its all going
so i start it up and then the engine rocked around really badly and stopped
and yeh took T-belt cover off and the belt had some how twisted and went upside down on the crank shaft
and yeh i think all push pods are bent gonna replace them all anyways 2 broken rocker arms

and the worst part was i didnt even get to drive it
i was getting it ready for a road worthy to so now its been slightly delaied due to a check engine light
