D2 Auto reverses only in Low Range, WHY?

An Auto transmission controls the gearing of driving in forward gears and reverse.
A transfer case controls the high and low range speed of gearing and also controls front and rear drive to axles.
I can't work out is why I have no Reverse gear HI RANGE, yet I do have reverse in Low Range? What am I missing? Has Something given way in transfer?

    wild guess.

Reversing gear clutch/sprag has folded on you, the lower torque requirements of low range is permitting it to hold just enough.

    on edit...

theres a few cases of contamination fouling the reverse clutch hydraulics and pulling the brain apart will let you clean it up.

So best to drop the pan and and have a look seems the order.

looks like my only once in a year towing boat trip is going to have to wait again. So much for nearly bullet proof ZF trans, just go without warning.
And to think not long ago I had to take out the box to repair a broken fluid pump gear and fitted a new flex plate and recoed T'Convetor.
I know a lot of people say doing stuff on your landy makes you become more in tune with it, but I'm starting to get toooooo intimate with her now

It's all Poseidon's doing. He's just doing his job in protecting the denizens of the deep.
No way you can get your boat down the launching ramp without reverse.

I know a bloke (who hasn't upset the sea gods) with a nearly roadworthy, nearly registered, antique D1 that could do the job.

I know that same bloke in Tynong North, he's a good mate of mine, I reckon he wouldn't mind towing it for me, hope he got a rectangle trailer wire plug fitted and not a round one. only bother is he get's bored after hours of not catching any fish and watching me reel them in. always feel a bit guilty.

I Drained the trans fluid and it was not a healthy pink as put in a few months back, had a bit of brown tinge.
A fine film of grey sludge on the filter and the magnet has this stuck to it, so look like another pull out of trans .
