300tdis can have this problem when the vacuum pump is on the way out...

Is there a trick to get a decent brake pedal on a D1 with ABS.
I have replaced all the brake fluid using a one way valve bleeder kit and a bottle but I can't seem to get a decent pedal.
Is there a special trick to bleeding the ABS unit like in D2?

If you're not qualified or have knowledge of how to service ABS brakes, take it to a qualifed brake specialist and have it done, don't **** with brakes, you could kill yourself or others, Regards Frank.
They are notorious for getting air in the master cylinder and very hard to bleed. I have been advised that it is best to take the master cylinder and bench bleed it to get the air out. If you are worried about the ABS, find a dirt road and do an emergency stop or two to ensure that the ABS is working. If the bench bleed of the MC doesn't work, try a pressure bleed.

Best place to start at if you have a rubbish pedal is wheel bearing adjustments, then bleeding, I don't have any trouble at all bleeding these, they do however have a rubbish pedal feel from new. The non ABS model however was fantastic.
This issue continued through the D2 also until 2002, the brake modulator must have had a bit of a going over as the brake pedal feel in the later D2 and D2a is way better.

The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Did you bleed both nipples?. Pat
Id give reverse bleeding a go. The master cylinder is the highest point and it will be easier to push the air pckets back up toward the master cylinder than force it down to the wheels.
I use this method on truck clutches epescially volvos as they very hard to gravity bleed but will bleed easy when you bleed backwards.
