This might help, but no idea about thicknesses though. Total Seal CR Classic Race Piston Rings CR0489-5 - SummitRacing.com

I can only speak from experience from 3 sets in one engine in <100K's.

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

You need to machine and hone specially for the rings and assembly is difficult to say the least. And all this on an engine that had 50K + spent on it and was meticulously prepped by their instructions. Enough blowby in 400k's to blow up the catch can. Went back to ACL's by memory and may have been plasma coated as well. The totals seal combustion well but at the expense of oil consumption. OK for race use and if being stripped and honed every use but definitely not daily driver stuff.

Isn't that "plateau honing" or something? Thanks for the tip - I'll stick with the usual.

    regarding piston rings3.9

Ok is there an excellent ring set recommended for rover 3.9? Also is it possible to change top crankshaft bearing shell on rover v8 from underneath vehicle? cheers matt

No reason you can't change the bearings in car. Unless they've spun and damaged the seat.

    Hastings Moly rings are good.

A big thanks for the links. I hadn't heard of that company before and now have a nice set of Hastings moly rings from them.

    Excellent.

Just follow any prep instructions and wash, wash, wash.

I do shower every day but that's a bit extreme for working on a Rover V8.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist.) These rings will be going into a new factory engine that seems to have been run for twenty minutes and then stored for a decade or so. I had to take the pistons out to clean up everything and thought I may as well put new rings in, (and bearings, etc., etc.)

I've got a feeling I'll have to give it a quick hone for the new rings, maybe with sandpaper?
