    Single person brake bleeding tool

    G'day.
The brake peddle is spongy and getting near to the floor on my D1.
Whith the engine turned off pushing down on the peddle produces a distinct gurgling sound. I have decided to rebuild the brake system with new bits from the UK, booster, master cylinder and pads. I already have new rotors to put in. No big deal but problem is I cant bleed the system on my own, so does anyone know of an outlet that sells the right bleeding tool ? Rather than the one that uses compressed air, I would prefer the thingy with the one way valve.
Anyone use one or know where to get it ?

    Ta.

I made my own out of an old coffee jar with lid and 1m of clear hose and a short length of hard plasctic tube, plastic tube fits thru hole in lid and clear tube fitted on the end.
Place bottle up higher than say tyre height and open bleed nipples and keep slowly the pumping pedal til tube is full of fluid and all the bubbles are out .

Can't help you with the one way valve type, but can tell you my Airboy brand bleeder (vacuum bleeder powered by compressed air) is one of the most loved tools in my workshop.
Any reason you don't want a compressed air one? I guess not having a compressor would be an obvious reason

Autobarn, SuperCheap etc. should carry the pipe with the non-return valve in the end.

I have one of these - Vizibleed Brake & Clutch Bleeder - One Man - Supercheap Auto Australia

Works great and I've used it on brakes & clutches.

I made a pressure bleding kit up some years ago, but I don't use it now - this does everything, and has even done some troublesome items like the clutch on my RRC and the clutch on my Daughters Vectra.

    Cheers - Gav

If you have a gurgling sound I suggest that it may be your booster half full of hydraulic fluid from a failed master cylinder.
There is no way brakes that need bleeding produce a gurgling sound.

If your vacuum booster has a lot of fluid in it, you can suck it out with a syringe fitted with a bit of hose.

Yes, I thought this but It does not lose any oil from the reservoir. I havent needed to top it up for yonks.
I wont really know untill I pull it apart. I thought I would ask first, get bits and then do job.

Steve, I have never used either type of bleeder ( I have always used a female peddle pusher ) but I read somewhere over the weekend that you have to use very low pressure ? It even mentioned that rather than an air compressor a spare tyre could be used with some of the air already removed ? Sounded unusual so I thought that one with a non return valve would be less complicated and easily used along the track somewhere.

Thank you all for the reply's. I will see what comes up on the net or what I can pick up in Mackay. I was looking for brand suggestions, so I will check out what you have mentioned.

If your vehicle has twin brake lines to the front calipers, then there is a 3rd bleed nipple on the outside of the calipers, can't be seen with the wheel on.
This nipple has to be bled according to the w/shop manual procedure, as most don't know of this nipple it may never have been bled, if so there will be a lot of crap in there, applies to twin brake lines only, regards Frank.

    Thanks Frank.
I cant remember what mine has. I will check it out when I get a bleeder tool thingy.
From memory, when I last replaced pads there was only one bleed nipple.
