depends on how bad the scratch is, but you could try using toothpaste. Take a small amount and rub it with your finger/small piece of rag or something, keep rubbing for a while. On second thoughts unless your trying to evade the police you might want to avoid using your fingers - you wont have any fingerprints left.

Depending on how deep the scratching is you could try something mechanical to rub with, ie. buffing wheel. I don't own one so never tried that.

Back when I was a learner driver and bought my first car, the windows had grouse watermarks allover them. I stood there for 1/3 of a tube of toothpaste and removed them. The windows were like new when I'd finished. The windows were minty fresh for a couple of days too!

It's also a good way to get scratches out of your watch face.

Only if they are light scratches...

Have a look at this website / url. Removing Scratches out of Glass.

The main message is this - glass isn't a workable surface, so it is nearly impossible to remove scratches that you can run a fingernail across and it gets caught on the scratch. If the scratch is deep and you still want to remove it, you will most probably get a distortion in the area, as it is a different depth to the rest of the glass. Not good news, by the look of things. I've tried polish etc to remove windscreen wiper scratches, but had to really work at it to make any change.

The product talked about is http://www.eastwood.com/glass-polish...ches-5658.html. $US50 plus freight.

About 30 years ago, the FIL at the time used toothpaste and a buff to fix an entire windscreen that was badly pitted from stones etc. Had minimal distortion,, and no more stone chips.

    Thank you mates,

I will go in a crescendo way: tooth Paste, Polish, Cerium Oxide and the final cure windshield replacement.

I will keep posting about the results.

    Cheers

    scratches in windscreen

If your fingernail catches on the scratch,it is pretty deep, very hard to remove.
If only superficial, yes toothpaste is a mild abrasive and if you stick at it may help, followed by a polish with Brasso or similar which is a bit finer. But it needs to be done more than once!

    Trev.
