    Being an auto you cant put it in gear and have some sort of holding on the crankshaft.

    Did you achieve this by setting up a dial guage down the pot and measuring the stroke of the no. 1 slug?

    Eyeballing the crank marking is not the best practice.

    To make sure you are at TDC the easiest way is using the flywheel TDC slot which is there for this purpose.

    Also find if you want to set the plunger lift on the IP its nice to have the crank TDC spot on - which is easily achieved with the flywheel pin.
