200Tdi gearbox noisy but working fine!?!
G'day all, my '93 110 is a pretty clunky old girl, but everything seems to work okay, so why can I hear everything that goes on in the gearbox? The oil seems to be up to the normal level, and the gears seem to work okay (a little grumbly and rough sometimes, but no real problems) but the noise seems to have gotten louder over the past year or so - a solid click-clack as the gears are changed (not while the clutch is being used, and the noise is basically the same when the engine is off), especially loud going to and from reverse gear.
I can't find anyone else talking about a similar "problem", if is it indeed a problem. Any ideas, or is it just a symptom of an older Defender?

maybe a split gaiter between the floor and shifter? allowing you to hear the noises that have been there since new more clearly

200 Tdi is likely to mean LT 77. It is likely that the box will make a bit of noise getting reverse in and out as it moves an idler into play. It maybe that something has worn a little to result in greater noise, I'd check the gaiters as said earlier before proceeding further with diagnosis.
Check YouTube, here is one to start you off on.
