    300tdi Automatic Cooler

Just chasing some advice on plumbing another oil cooler in on my 300tdi. My original plan is to make braided hoses up to the genuine cooler and then run it through the second cooler and back to the gearbox. Is there a better and easier way to do this? Reason being is my standard cooler lines are just about to bust, and I've had problems with hoses popping off between the metal lines, hence why I was thinking braided hoses. Can anyone suggest cooler to go with (prefer with fan). I will also need to know thread sizes for the gearbox and standard cooler. Any help is greatly appreciated

(I'm just about to replace my gearbox after it overheating and sucking in some water. )

    Thanks,
    KevinB

I would recommend ditching the original cooler - it has very little front surface cooling area and many are blocked after years of service. A year or so ago I replaced mine with a PWR unit with 1/2 inch barbs. The stock lines are 1/2 inch. Made up a bracket to sit in front of the radiator. I also silver soldered barbed connectors on the metal lines, (Enzed will also solder on the ends if you are unable) and basically replaced all the flexible rubber stuff with blue high temp hydraulic lines from Enzed (way enough for the pressure, braided lines are not necessary). End result is a nice cool running transmission with no leaks.

Note: to expose the ends of the metal lines and strip off the old crimps, just cut the crimps vertically with a cut off wheel on two sides and they will fall apart. The end with the temp sensor requires a bit more care, but is doable.

The link to the cooler I got is here: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER H DUTY 1/2 " BARBS | eBay or you can go direct to PWR. You will not need a fan. These coolers are quite thin but have a large front surface cooling area and will not restrict the airflow to the radiator.

    I had that ^^^ cooler -
    PWR. Part No: PWO6634 – 280x255x19mm 1/2″ Barb
    installed with the new engine.
seems to be working fine, though to be honest I'm not sure what the first sign of "it" not working would be,,,
