					Hi y'all....I have a question regarding re-keying my Disco 2.
I have had to replace my ignition which I bought a good 2nd hand replacement from the wreckers yesterday. I also was sold a blank key (without fob) & the existing key to fit the replacement ignition. What I would like to know is, can I easily get the blank key cut/copied from the original key for this replacement ignition? I was told by a locksmith that I could but it would need to be programmed (there's a chip in it apparently?) I can't see how the metal key part needs programming? 					The metal part suits the locks that you bought - there is nothing electronic or electrically connected in that part. You need to use your old fob though so it can talk to the BCU. Depending on the frequency of the fob that came with the new locks, the BCU might be able to be programmed to talk to it also

					The metal kety part just pulls out of the fob.
You can fit your old key blade into the new fob, by just getting a pair of pliers and pulling it out of the old fob.
Then you have to split the new fob and get the numbers that are printed on a tiny sheet of paper on the back of the circuit board. Fit a new battery.
 Check that the light goes on when you press either fob button.
Then someone with a nanocom will have to program the new key code into the BCU of the car.  If you do not have that code the fob is of no use to you.
 
At the same time that person can do an RF test and if the BCU recognises that it gets a plip signal, the BCU and the key can be synchronised with the rolling code.
If you have a non plipping key the BCU is probably set with passive immobilisation disabled as my car is.
 
Then it will work  or not if it like mine as my RF receiver is shot ( maybe hopefully)
