I am stupid - glass and grinder sparks

Even though I know of the issues of angle grinder sparks hitting glass I did a stupid thing and did some grinding and didn't cover nearby glass so now have little melted craters over it. Not such an issue in itself but things like suction caps cannot stick to it.

Does anyone know of a means of leveling the high points - such as sanding the glass with 1200/1500 grade paper and then polishing.

    Thanks

If you use wet/dry sandpaper you should be fine. The other thing i have seen used is fine grade steel wool. Depends on how deep the pits are i suppose.

Make a scraper of mild steel sheet and run it lightly across the glass until you can no longer feel the lumps. Done it plenty of times in my youth...

It's not the little craters that are the issue now, what is the issue is when the little metal fragments lodged in the glass start to rust.

Thanks for all the pointers - am so angry with myself as I knew of the issue and always move the car well out the way but but had some other car glass lying around which was uncovered until it was too late.

    Cheers

I have used a new 50 - 75mm cheapo paintscraper to knock the spatter off in the past with fair to middling success.

    Hi Garry,

Fragments rusting down the track is easy to deal with. Rust dissolver (NOT convertor) containing phosphoric acid will remove any staining and remnant fragments very quickly.

Scotch brite scrubber will sort it out use a bit of detergent or car wash and water and give it a good scrub or try a razor blade scraper
