I suppose design always involves compromises and there are probably some advantages to having the battery in the engine bay.

That might be the case with your vehicle, but on well designed vehicles like my Defender, the battery is well away from the heat under the passenger's seat.

Er isn't that because the engine bay is so small that you cannot fit a battery there?

How about bottom clamping the battery???? Assuming its not a spiral cell type battery.
Falcons have had a base clamp setup for a long time,I assume other vehicles do to.
Simply devise a bolt down clamp to grip the purpose built area on the battery

Ah, so that's what the ridge around the battery is for. Good idea!

Jake, You haven't said what type of cradle you have AFAIR, but if an ARB the thing already has a ridge at the passenger end, and the other end plate is designed to hold down the specified battery, which is a pretty small one.

I wanted a bigger battery so fitted an Optima which is both bigger but has far more CCA, as I am using it for my starting battery.
I have just ordered a 130AH AGM for the front spot.

Yes mine is an arb tray but it has been modified with the angle grinder to fit the battery, hence the need for a strap/securing method

Yes - I can't remember the exact post but a few people have put them in the SLS compressor tray (assuming you don't have the air suspension).
