Technical term for a metal strap/massive jubilee clip?

I'm fitting a second battery in my D2 and I can't get a battery bar to fit across the top (and still close the bonnet). So was looking to put a strap around the battery to hold it in place (between the tray, the battery and the bonnet there isn't much movement, but better safe than sorry).

So my question is, what's the technical term for a massive jubilee clip, or a heat resistant (it's next to the turbo) strap I could use to hold it in place please?

Are you using a massively tall battery? What have other D2 owners done?

I had no problem getting one for my RRC and my D1 - I thought the second battery location was the same.

An improperly restrained battery will get you a defect if inspected by the constabulary.

The battery terminals are snug against the bonnet under the bulge in the D2 bonnet, but adding a normal battery bar means it goes under the lower part of the bonnet and won't close. I just need a 'flexible strap' but obviously a nylon one would be no good.

I suggest that you do what I did when I fitted an Optima to a ARB battery tray in my D2 TD5.

I bought a cheap tie down from Supercheap, and drilled holes in the ends of the tray so that the tie down is end to end rather than across, as there is no room in mine as the battery is right up against the aircon tubes. I needed an air drill to get access as I was not going to take that tray out for anyone.

I cut a piece of 1inch steel strap to length and drilled holes in the appropriate places . I then cut the hooked bolts off so they only protruded from the steel strip by a little bit. I then dipped the steel strap in yellow plasticote dip stuff that I had lying around.
My Optima does not touch the bonnet ( this would be BAD) so you must have a tall battery or a tray in a higher position.

I have a tall battery I guess - I've got the ARB tray and tried something similar so probably just need to tweak it. The terminals just touch the sound proofing I think. The sun was in my eyes today so was struggling to see where it touched.

    Hi,

You really don't want the terminals to be touching anything even with covers over both.

I tried to see if mine were touching with a borescope without much success, but if you have an Optima it should be the negative terminal nearest the sound deadening, if you have it in with the negative to the passenger side.

I couldn't see any witness marks on the sound deadening and I am assuming it is non conductive anyway. I have also used flat terminals( not ones with a butterfly nut sticking up in the air). I have a marine Optima which has 2 terminals , one normal the other a butterfly nut.

I usually get a piece of Plasticine and make it into a column then close the bonnet on it.
    Regards Philip A

BTW I did measure it all before fitting by sitting a tape measure in the tray upright and comparing that to the battery height and all looked good.

Band It is probably what you are thinking of, The World's Leader in Quality Engineered Band Clamping and Fastening Solutions should be available at industrial suppliers such as Blackwoods.

Is close to all the heat radiating from the turbo the ideal place to locate a battery?

I was under the impression that batteries suffered from exposure to too much heat.

Maybe there is no other possible location or maybe my information is wrong or out of date.

It's not ideal, heat does affect batteries but there is no other place in the engine bay and most people seem to get a few years from their batteries there so worth a go.

Obviously you need to put some heat shield there, and the thing I always think is that the main battery is in the engine bay too and the ambient temperature there can still get really high.
