Sick D1 V8
Hi,
My '95 D1 V8 on dual fuel has some issues.
All started with a blown head gasket which i replaced about a month ago. Before that i had had some ongoing gas issues which i knew needed sorting out.
So after i'd done the head gasket i took it to a Landy specialist for some TLC. They ended up replacing the gas mixer, tunned it and put on new leads. Also fixed a few coolant leaks that i had missed. Then all good except for a leak around the water pump ( i have a new pump to go in).
Then it starts running really rough and not on lpg at all and only just on petrol.
I have converted to BeeUtey's Bosch ignition module and 717 coil ( the landy specialist said that that coil would cause problems and should be replaced with a traditional round style).
When the vehicle is cold it will start on petrol and idle, when put in gear it usually dies or will just move the vehicle a meter or two.
The coil is reading 13.4V at idle and goes up and down when reved up to 17V.
Any ideas???

I'd start with checking the battery voltage instead of coil voltage. If the alternator is overcharging your battery will be dead very quickly.
Next checking every low voltage connection around the ignition system for cleanliness and tightness, then lifting the dissy cap, looking for carbon tracks and moisture, then check that each lead is tight and clean in the cap, then try another coil. Bosch BIC290 is a compatible cylinder coil.

Thanks, battery voltage before i started it today and after sitting for 3 days was 12.40V.
I have noticed that my Traxide dual battery system is flashing so my batteries aren't joined.
Also has a new dissy cap and new genuine rotor.

Hi Does it run on gas ok?? Start with the easy stuff, first fire it up when it is dark and see if you get a light show under the bonnet. My test for the ignition system on my county's is a bucket of water on the dizzy. If it stops it need replacing. Petrol engines not liking water is a myth, if the system is good in mine wont even faulter with the hose directly on the dizzy. Pull out all of the plugs and compare them. Do they all look the same? what colour are they? How is the air cleaner, I use to keep a rag under the bonnet near the air cleaner of mums disco to check the oil, it ended up in the air cleaner she was complaining of lack of power and stalling all the time. Check the timing, have a look inside the dizzy cap and dizzy, does it have white growies on it?? Check all the injector leads connections are clean and connected correctly, and the air flow sensor. Another trick is to check for vacuum leaks around the engine, WD40 works well while it is running, the revs will change if there is a leak. And check to see if the engine breather is not blocked. This will take a best part of a day to check but will cost you nothing and narrow it down hopfully. Tim

No Spark!
Help, i have no spark.
I just put in a new coil, wired it in and now it won't start.
I pulled the lead from coil to dissy and turned engine over with lead 10-20mm from engine block and got nothing.
What am i doing wrong?

Check which way around you have the wires on your coil. There should be a 12v supply coming from the ignition switch which goes to the positive side of the coil. there should be then 2 wires from there going to the ignition module on the side of the dizzy. One will be 12v feed from the coil the second the pulse from the dizzy to the coil, which should go to the negative side of the coil. That should go. There should also be a wire hooked to the negative side of the coil that then feed pulses to the computer. This wire comes out of the harness at the airflow sensor. It is white with a black stripe on my county. ( I converted it to EFI) Tim

Thanks, got it going, but there is still an underlying problem so have sent it of to the local Landy specialist.
