    Fan Belt Loose

    Hi all,

Ive got a problem with my D1 300tdi auto going through Fan Belts. I need to change them roughly every 5000-7000 Km. Does anyoone have any suggestions that would be making them come loose very fast?
New Dayco Belt Tensioner and MR recommended belts everytime.

    Thanks,
    KevinB

you're ordering the longer belt when you have the small alternator pully, the tensioner is only about 5mm in from its stops so isnt putting the right tension on the belt. (Bet you think you're legendary at changing the belt if this is the case)

OR you have the shorter belt on the larger pully and the tensioner is only 1 or 2mm from its back stop and is overtensioning everything. (you'll want to replace all the idlers if this is the case and I bet you swear like a sailor changing the belts)

    Alternatively the tensioner is stuffed

Alternatively you have a bearing or pully thats stuffed or out of alingment.

Double check that your not mist aligning the grooves when you put it on, its surprisingly easy to do

Ill have a look into it when its daylight. Thanks for shedding some light on the situation. After its been said you kinda think 'why didnt i think of that', but ill check the pulleys and alignment of the grooves etc. Ill report back my findings and hopefully get the situation sorted fast.

    Thanks
