That's about 10 or more years that the problem has existed.![]()
the O ring in my rear locker has been leaking oil up through the solenoid for quite a while and last weekend, it seemed that the line wouldn't pressurise to activate it. Part cost, about 70 cents.
To fix it, around $320! Apparently the axles both have to come out which means new rear axle seals and of course, new oil in the diff..... which is only 3 months old grrrrr
Anyway, it'll be done on Friday.... I told the boys at AMV NOT to go looking for anything else LOL. I'm not having a shot at AMV here, more a shot at ARB for such a crappy design. Apparently they acknowledge this problem but are yet to do anything about it.
I hate them and their bloody arrogance.

Mine doesn't leak oil. It leaks air. When I bought the vehicle last November, the rear airlocker was not working, just pumping fumes out of the axle breather. I had the local transmission guy replace the seals ('O' rings). When I needed it, it worked once then began leaking again. I pulled it out myself last week and replaced the seals and seal housing, all to the letter of ARB's instructions. Up the high country on the weekend, it worked all day Saturday and failed on Sunday. Going to have to come out again. Not happy Jan.
I've just received my Ashcroft locker for the front diff, would much prefer theirs for the rear but the ARB was already in it.
That's a bastard Pete
Before you pull it out, see what happens with air from your garage compressor. If it throws the actuator and stops leaking, then part of the issue may be that the maximum flow through the lines to the locker when installed is insufficient. When I put the old version back in the rear end the first time (having verified it works on the bench) it did the same thing to me - air out the breather. It tested fine with high volume compressed air when in place. Turns out the line just needed clearing out to return full flow. Another culprit might be that the compressor you have just won't get up to the necessary pressure - either a compressor problem or pressure switch problem.
And Wardy, a blocked line doesn't necessarily prove or disprove anything with the o-ring! Unless the locker is delivered air successfully, it's never going to work.
As stated earlier a problem thats been around for 10 years without ARB fixing, replacing or redesigning. Says a lot about ARB and it also says a lot about us as consumers believing that ARB produce the best quality 4wd components/accessories, it obviously isn't the case, for me the Eaton/Harrop E-locker is the best in the market.
Cheers
