    Thanks and some give back

My thanks to all those who have been helping me decide which way to go wth aux battery charging. During my searches on line I came across an interesting article which tends to offer that post 1999 vehicles 12S sockets are wired differently and explains why some 12S sockets overheat and what you can do to prevent them overheating in future. This is a good piece of advice imo

Hi, didn't see the previous thread you refer to but the option I use for my van is to have no wiring connection for charging or power to the vehicle at all - avoid the issues with bad connections in the plugs which can be so common as they are out there in the water and dirt on the back of the car. Just use it for your stop/tail and blinkers. During driving my 3 way fridge runs on 12 volt strait from the 2 x 120 AH SLA batteries which are being topped up from 2 x solar panels on the roof putting out around 9.5 amps on a reasonable day. When stopped, strait over to gas. So the van is fully independent of the vehicle.

Sounds like a good set up Marty.

TBH i think that the battery charger in my set up is a little overkill as I carry my 50Ltr waeco in the car with me when mobile and so don't need the battery in the Camper to power anything while on the move. I felt though, that a charger which will also regulate a solar panel output was best for me and the car is there in case of poor light so I can always top up the aux battery through the same charger.
