Winches. Wiring, non fuctioning solenoid and motor.

I've put this in Tech as while it's recovery & electrical, it doesn't fall exactly under the guidelines for either but is technical.

I have a Tigerz11 winch (one of the first gen, prior to the short lived 2 speed model predating the current crap range). It's always worked superbly, without fault. Has been kept claen, dry and lubed and had extra sealing applied.

When I had a recent visit to the auto gym (panel beaters) it came back needing the door adjusted (minor understandable), the front arch trim needing less conspicuous adhering and better connections where they cut wiring where they were told no to as it would pull out without it. The cruise control also doesn't work.

So all the large issues stem from the dodgy auto elec that I told the insurance co not to pay for due to there being the need for outside remedial work to be quoted and done to correct.

So the winch doesn't work, The isolation switch (selecting wired or wireless control) is fine sending power to the wired plug for use by the lead/switch or to the remote receiver and both these switch power correctly and send it out to the solenoids.

There is no noise or feeling from the solenoid, being activated. It also will not activate when manually powered in any way. The motor will not rotate in wither direction when powered directly, again even when manually powered directly from the battery.

Have checked the wiring diagrams against both tigerz and other instructions plus generic instructions for the solenoid operations. to no avail.

Suggestions anyone or do I just claim a new winch on the bill as well?

it may be as simple as a sticking solenoid or a brush stuck clear of the armature inside the motor.

I recall a time when someone I knew fitted a new winch to an old bar and wouldn't work, nor could the rope be pulled out when "free-spool" was selected.

The distortion in his bar was not obvious from a casual visual inspection, but was distorted to the extent that when the mounting bolts for the winch were tightened up the drum bearings were bound so tight that power from a fully charged battery couldn't turn the drum.

It'll free spool out and hand wind back in. I's guess about the solenoid or motor but there's no response in any way from either and it only happened after it visited the worlds dodgiest elec.

Tims SC160 is imminently pending to burn down my disco unless it's removed immediately and replaced with a DC/DC system without explanation on how that will split charge, jump start or winch mode for me other than "it just will".

I physically threw heavy objects at him to get him away from the car.

pretty sure I'm missing the point of that bit?

tims gear is usually rock solid and only ever let down by bad connections and crimps that fail.

did you mean the auto elecy wants to put in something else?

yes, he believes that dc/dc is the future etc. Cut wiring that wasn't necessary, removed Tims unit and I had to forcibly get it back. That's why I suspect greater things are afoot with the winches issues.

All this came about after the stuff was refitted so it wasn't a retribution thing, just sheer incompetence.

This is the point at which you complain to the insurance company that he has modified the vehicle away from its insured specification and is not willing to return it to the original insured condition.

Well it's officially dead. Now to choose a replacement. Poles on the motor have been spun when tightening the wiring and broken the wires inside.
