My lathe will do just 750mm with a tube mounted in the chuck if I put the tool post on backwards, I could do a run of the inserts but would need them pre cut to approx length about 755 mm / 405mm .
if you can't find anyone local I could have a crack but need to fix my motor first, its just started playing up, lathe wont start up in reverse .

Damien, I measured it up today
long side is 715mm
short side 395mm
inside diameter (diff end) 68mm
outside diameter (flange end) 67mm
tube OD 80mm
The 1 mm difference seems to be from where the flanges are friction spun onto the tube and there are 2 ridges of about 5mm sticking up just inside each flange which would have to be machined or ground off with the extra 1 mm to allow the insert to be pushed into the tube.
Thanks Brian, so not as straight forward as just sliding a sleeve in then. Sounds like the 66.4mm hollow bore would do the trick as the tolerance isn't really going to matter.Quote:

No unfortunately, I would think that making the tube OD just a smidgeon under 68mm and take that extra mm out of the flange along with the friction weld ridges would be the best outcome. Thoughts?
Sounds good to me. So 67.8mm and bang it in the freezer if need be to fit it.
That will leave a sleeve with a wall thickness of 6.93mm, so total axle tube thickness of approx 12.73mm😎
