It was a Rover axle, the plates being needed probably because of the way the housing curves up to where the diff bolts on. But looking at your photo, maybe the inner tube would just weld onto the cast centre housing of a Salisbury. Interesting.
I will see if I can get to it tomorrow, it's still has it's hubs and stubs attached.Quote:

No point in using any high strength steel for laminating the inside of a Salisbury axle tube. In bending and torsion, the highest stress will always be on the outside diameter of the existing axle tube. The material in the laminating sleeve will carry much less load than the existing axle tube.Quote:

I spoke to an ex associate of Maxi Drive yesterday and they indicated that Mal only did a few Salisbury housings.
His way of strengthening them was to put a piece of 12x40 mm strap from one side to another running under the pumpkin.
As Serg has previously indicated you could get things caught in any arrangement like this.
I suspect that Kangaroo parts could get caught on it on the way out the back.

They even managed to break a Hilux during the recovery. Bad luck chaps.
There you go - 90kmh is too fast on the dirt. And before anyone says anything, yes, I've done it, and after a few very close calls, no, now I don't.
