Djam, the basic type of brace that you are describing has been used alot over the years, but isnt much chop on anything serious off road. Dirt racers etc yes. Bush65 has pointed out that a truss on top can be as functional as a truss on bottom. I have seen some very elabirate trusses with the middle section unboltable, but these things weigh alot and are needed on hardcore 4wd racers.
The type of conditions I am envisaging are 1000 ks of heavy corrugations at high speed would of thought it was ok for that?

Here is one pic from that thread. If you go through the whole thread, some of the fab is very good, and some of the fab is not so good. Some of the designs may look pretty but are they the best way of doing it???

that would be your choice :) If you didnt think you would get anything caught, jambed between the brace and the housing I guess it could be ok. As far as material shape, size and design. I would leave that to the experts. But the basic underside strap truss can be seen in many 70/80s tv shows when jumping cars and trucks....Quote:

There was an article in a 90s LRW magazine showing this being done with a front axle for off-road racing. The tube is welded at the ends as shown above and then a couple of plates connect the end of the tube with the inside of the diff housing. That's what I'd do if I could get around to it.

Arthur can you tell us what the ID of your spare housing is?
From memory 80 mm OD, and so ~68 mm ID for a 110. You would want a tube that is ~68 mm OD and at least 4 mm wall.Quote:
