    TD5 Fuel pump BMW?

Recently my fuel pump has become very noisy, almost squealing, and had become harder to start in the mornings, sub 5deg C, then it just stopped about 5km from home heading to town so I ordered a new fuel pump, arrived today, discovered it's a chinese made not OEM .
Anyway I cut a hole in the tray to access the pump and after cleaning the top and surrounds of pump can now see stamped in the locking ring that holds the pump in place "BMW 1182904" is this normal?
Has anybody had a decent run out of the 'chinese' fuel pumps??

This locking ring holding the fuel pump in is so far not budging, anyone got any clues to getting this thing moving, there are two white plastic tabs opposite each other protruding from below the locking ring, are these some sort of latching device to stop the locking ring from coming undone?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

There is a service tool for undoing the locking ring, but should be able to undo with a cold chisel and tap it around.
The white ring is a adapter to the tank. These can spin while trying to undo the lock ring. don't let the white pieces undo.

Its normal to see BMW stamped on various things, BMW owned LR at one stage.

Haven't used Chinese pumps, so cant comment on them.

I ended up getting the pump only from these guys

    Spectromatic - 50044 J - fuel pump

Haven't had a chance to do real world testing yet as my car isn't ready just pressurised the fuel system in the garage for now.

Thanks Mick and Woko, I made up a tool to remove locking ring last night, first with a hex shaft to attach 18V torque driver, then with 1/2" drive socket, both to no avail, ring is very tight and only has very small lugs.
Due to the tray being 300mm above the fuel pump and restricted to size hole I can cut because of cross members supporting the tray it is nearly impossible to get in there with a hammer and chisel, though that looks like how it was put on previously but maybe with tank removed as there is no sign of someone cutting a hole through the tray previously.
Have sprayed with inox to try and free it but still not budging, will keep persevering.

On a roll, got the pump out, tapped the edge of the removal tool I made, the impact made all the difference, now to get new one in and see if she'll fire up.

    Question Fuel pump locking ring

I've come to a grinding halt, put new fuel pump in but locking ring won't hold.
Been at it for nearly 1 1/2 hrs, can get the ring to appear to screw on and hold but some minor movement, like reconnecting the hoses and it just springs off again, I'm at wits end. The tool I made makes contact at 4 locations on the ring which enables me to apply pretty even pressure when pushing down against the springs on the filter but it just doesn't want to stay put. Can someone who knows about such things help out here please.

took a breather for lunch, got back to it, must have held me mouth right or something, yeah I was onto the "righty tighty" side of things, anyway did the bleed trick, fired up right on 20 seconds, fuel pump noise now much much quieter, pump in at 235 000km, we'll see how long it lasts.
