replacing 300 tdi injection pump solenoid, How?

I have just purchased 97 Disco and when I turned it off it didn't, so I disconnected the fuel line pickup side to stop it, searching the posts for info on how to replace it I read another guy who just stalled it in gear-now that would have been a good idea! (add it to my collection of dumb moments)

Anyway what I want to know is does the solenoid come out without removing the top part of the pump. I don't have a spanner that will go over it with the limited access. Looks to be 24MM?
Don't have a manual yet so would appreciate some tips on the job.

don't want to buy another special spanner if you can't get it out without
    dis-assembly of pump

    Thanks Jo

You can remove the solenoid with the pump in situ.
however the actual stop solenoid is usually pretty reliable.

Electrically is the wiring harness working correctly - as in 12V to FIP solenoid when keys on IGN and 0V when keys at ACC or OFF?

To remove the solenoid I think you will find a socket will be eaier than a spanner.

Anyone removed solenoid from 300 tdi injection pump?

the wiring is right I checked that and it is a 12v feed to keep it running so pulling the wire off should stop it but doesn't. It doesn't seem possible to get a socket on it without top section of pump removed.

Can anyone who has replaced one of these let me know or any tips from a manual.

    Thanks Jo

I have definitely removed the solenoid on a pump insitu without removing any other components. But it was a while ago and I cant remember how.
Ill have a look at a spare pump I have in the shed and come up with a plan if no one sorts this beforehand...
